**FIRST DAY**
When the students arrive for the first day of classes they
should go to the appropriate playground (see the map) to pick up their nametags
and daily schedule. Posters will be hung along the outside school wall for
each class. At 8:55, a warning bell will signal for all students to line up in
front of the poster with their class. Their teacher will then take them into
the classroom from there.
Students arriving after 9:00 should stop by the CollegeBound
office (room 130) for a nametag before going to the classroom. If they are
early for a class, they should sit quietly outside the classroom door and wait
for the bell before going inside.
Program Information
Breakfast AND Lunch
Franklin Elementary hosts a free breakfast and lunch program
for children and youth under the age of 18. Breakfast will be open from 8:00 –
9:00 am. If your child is here during the lunch hour (between periods 3 and 4,
11:55 – 12:40), he/she may either bring a lunch from home or eat a school lunch
free of charge. There will also be supervisors out on the playground between 3rd
and 4th periods to monitor the students during this time.
Discipline
Rules
- Respect people and property.
- Stay with the class.
- Leave personal belongings at home.
- Follow teacher instructions.
- Have fun!
Consequences
If a student violates these rules they will be sent to the
office. Below are the consequences that accompany each progressive trip to the
office:
- Warning/Goal setting for making future right choices.
- Phone call to parents and in-school suspension (time-out
in another classroom).
- Student sent home immediately and suspended for the
following two consecutive program days. No refunds will be given
for suspended students.
*Serious misbehavior will result in an immediate 2-day
suspension. This includes fighting or malicious physical contact, destruction
or theft of the property of others, harassment, and/or obscene, vulgar, or
abusive language or actions.
Dress Code
Students are not allowed to wear short shorts, 2 piece
swimsuits, bare midriffs, spaghetti straps, or halter tops. For safety reasons,
shoes must be worn at all times. Students dressed inappropriately will be
sent to the office to call parents for a change of clothing.
Early Check-Outs
In order to maintain the security of our students the
following procedures for early child check out will be enforced. If a child
must leave early, an adult on the “approved pick-up” list must come in
to the CollegeBound office (room 130) and sign him/her out. That person will
then receive a note to give to the teacher stating that the child has been
properly checked out. Unless an adult has a “check-out” note from the office,
teachers will not let the students leave.
Halls
Before school (1st period only), students should
remain outside until the bell rings when teachers will come and take them in.
Students arriving at a later hour (for periods 2nd-5th)
should sit quietly outside the classroom door and wait for the bell to
ring before entering the classroom. Students are not allowed to wander or play
in the halls.
Health/Safety
Illnesses
Please do not send your child to school with any of the
following symptoms:
-Fever over 100 degrees -Discolored
nasal discharge
-Sore throat -Undiagnosed
rash
-Severe cold -Diarrhea
-Vomiting -Inflamed,
red, or mattery eyes
Parents will be called to pick up a child that arrives with
or develops any of these symptoms during the day.
Medication
If your child needs to take medication during the day, you
can:
---Come in and administer it yourself OR
---Stop by the CollegeBound office to get a medication form,
have your doctor fill it out, and bring it back along with the medication in a
properly labeled prescription bottle.
CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CARRY MEDICATION WITH THEM AT
SCHOOL.
Special Needs
If your child has any special medical needs, please include
necessary information on their profile. This includes allergies, asthma,
diabetes, hearing problems, etc. We would also appreciate specific information
from the doctor as to what we should do if there is a problem.
Emergency care
Parents will be notified if a child receives an injury more
severe than the typical bumps, bruises, and scrapes. This includes any head
injuries, possible breaks, large or deep wounds, or allergic reactions. If the
child’s condition appears to be life-threatening and emergency medical
attention is deemed necessary, 911 will be called and then the parents will be
contacted immediately. When the paramedics arrive, they will determine what
medical attention is required and, if necessary, which medical facility to take
the child to. Parents will be responsible for all medical costs.
Seven Peaks
We will be going to Seven Peaks on Friday, July 16th.
Students as well as any immediate family members can attend for just $5 each
(children three years and under can get in for free). Any children under the
age of 18 who is not enrolled in the program MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.
Students in the program will be accompanied by teachers and volunteers.
Transportation
BUS--There will be a bus provided for students who
live along the regular bus routes for Franklin Elementary. This bus will
collect students before periods 1, 3, and 4 and then return them after periods
2, 3, and 5. You may obtain a copy of the bus schedule in the CollegeBound
office. A bus will be provided after lunch at 12:40 (not 2:40 as
previously posted) to the Boys and Girls Club located at Joaquin Elementary
(550 N. 600 E. in Provo). All busses will pick up and drop students off on
the west side of the building.
PICK UP--Someone from the “authorized pick-up” list
must come TO THE CLASSROOM to sign a student out at the end of class. This
method is recommended for smaller children who might easily get lost in the
crowd. Please be prompt—the teachers have other classes to teach or are
waiting to go home themselves. (Older students can pick up younger siblings IF
their names are on the pick-up list).
WALK HOME--If you would like your child to be able to
walk out the door when the bell rings, make sure to indicate “Walk Home.”
Students may then pick-up younger siblings, meet you somewhere outside the
building, or walk home. Crossing guards will be at the following
addresses before and after each period: 500 W 200 S, 500 W 400 S, and 300 S 700
W. We encourage students who are walking home to cross at these locations if
needed.
Water Bottles
Since we will be holding the program during the hot summer
months, we encourage students to bring a water bottle, labeled with their name.
